Glacier Hills is very proud that we’ve joined over 130 credit unions in the fight to stop financial exploitation. As you may know, we’re certified in AARP’s BankSafe Initiative, which focuses on four key areas:
- Preventing financial exploitation
- Empowering family caregivers
- Helping those with dementia
- Making banking tools and environments easier to access
The average victim will lose $120,000, which makes prevention of financial exploitation critical to protecting our members. Through the AARP training program, Glacier Hills has equipped our staff with the tools to spot and prevent financial exploitation of senior members before money ever leaves an account. Additionally, we have access to ongoing data and information from AARP in order to stay on top of new developments in this fight.
Let us know if you have any questions or if you’d like more information visit the BankSafe Initiative.

On September 23rd, we celebrated YOU, our members, with our 2nd Annual Member Appreciation Day. Members enjoyed lunch on us, and some even won prizes at our West Bend, Fond du Lac and Hartford branches. Thank you to Little’s BBQ Co., Tim’s Full Belli Deli and Puebla’s Kitchen for providing the food trucks! It was great seeing so many familiar faces and meeting some of our newer members. Thanks for being part of the Glacier Hills family, where you are always appreciated.

According the the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), there are four common scams to be aware of this holiday season:
- Non-delivery scam: You order something but it never arrives
- Non-payment scam: Something is delivered, but the seller is never paid
- Auction fraud: A product is misrepresented on the auction site, and you have no recourse to return it
- Gift card fraud: The seller asks you to pay with an itme you want to buy with pre-paid gift card
These scams, along with plain old credit card fraud, account for over $500,000,000 in losses annually. That’s right, over a half a billion dollars. We’ll do what we can to protect you at the credit union level, but we encourage you to learn how to limit your risk. For more information and some great tips, check out this article from the FBI on holiday scams.
