Remembering 2022, celebrating 2023
On March 14th, we held our annual meeting and were gratified by the number of members who attended. You have a unique position at Glacier Hills in that it is your right to participate in the business of our credit union. So, thanks to all who attended.
The highlight of the meeting was the announcement of our 2023 Scholarship winners. Congratulations again to Natali, Elizabeth and Anna. We also voted in two new Board members, Allison Holtzer and Ken Schuh. We’re thrilled to have them on board (no pun intended!) and thank them so much for their willingness to serve our organization in this way.

Reality Day returned on May 5th
The Glacier Hills Team was excited to be back at West Bend High School for their second Reality Day of the year, held on May 5th. We participated in the first one in January and were blown away by how impacting this experience can be.
During the event, students navigated through the Reality Day stations and managed their personal financial resources to pay for one month of life's necessities, while making choices about what additional products and services to purchase and how much to save for their future plans.
Helping teenagers learn how to conquer the challenges of managing real-world finances is one of the greatest gifts we can give them, and we’re thrilled to be able to assist our future members to become successful, financially literate adults.

Presenting this year’s scholarships at the annual meeting, CEO Tami Winkler stated, “We can think of no better way to give back to the communities we serve than by investing in the future of our young adults, helping them to grow and become strong and contributing members of our credit union community.” Our 2023 recipients exemplify the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.
- Natali is a senior at West Bend West High School and will be attending UW River Falls. She received a $1,000 membership scholarship.
- Elizabeth is a senior at Arrowhead Union High School and will be attending either UW-Madison or University of Minnesota. She received a $1,000 membership scholarship.
- Anna is a senior at Mayville High School and will be attending UW-Oshkosh. She received the Family $500 scholarship.

The best defense against scams
Technology is great, but scammers are constantly finding creative new ways to use it to prey on us. The best defense against the constant flow of new scams is surprisingly simple: stay informed. If you recognize a fraud, it will be easier to avoid any losses. To help you stay informed, we’ll be highlighting issues you should be aware of in each Field Guide.
Student Loan Forgiveness Scams—You’ll receive a message (phone, text or email) telling you that you must apply for debt relief immediately or risk being shut out of the program. If you take the bait, they’ll charge you a large application fee. The legitimate student loan forgiveness application is 100% free. Remember: fraudsters frighten people by making them think that they’re going to lose out on something or miss a deadline. The word “URGENT” is a red flag.
Zelle Scams—You’ll receive a message from “the financial fraud department,” but it usually won’t identify a legitimate financial institution. The scammer claims a thief was trying to steal money from your account (scare tactic) and then offers to help you fix the issue by having you send money to yourself, often through Zelle. Remember: We will NEVER ask you to send money or provide personal information over phone, email or text. The term “financial fraud department” is a red flag.
